RF & Wireless Components RF Switches for the Internet of Things Products Low-Power Cellular IoT Technology will form a Key Part of IoT Infrastructure Skyworks is pleased to introduce two new RF switches ideal for the Internet of Things applications including the connected home. In addition to the connected home, the SKY13587- 378LF, which is a pHEMT GaAs SPDT switch, can be used for transmit and receive switching in industrial, lighting and smart energy applications, as well as 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN networks that operate at 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz. The SKY13588-460LF is a CMOS siliconon-insulator SP3T switch made for antenna selection in Wi-Fi applications in IoT systems. These advanced switches feature an operating temperature range up to 105 °C, making them ideal for applications that require extended temperature. They also boast high isolation and low insertion loss which is best for low-power transmit/receive applications. Their positive voltage control provides low current and optimal efficiency for battery-operated IoT applications and their broadband frequency ranges from 20 MHz to 6 GHz (SKY13587-378LF) to 0.1 to 6 GHz (SKY13588-460LF).These devices are available in compact MLPD/QFN packages (6- or 12-pin), saving precious application board space and design cost for OEMs. ■ Skyworks Solutions Inc. www.skyworksinc.com Broadband Gain Blocks RFMW Ltd. announced design and sales support for a broadband, gainblock amplifier from Akoustis. The AKA-1500GN operates from DC to 14 GHz with up to 16.5 dB of gain and 16.4 dBm P1dB. This broadband InGaP HBT MMIC amplifier is a lowcost, high-performance solution for general-purpose RF and microwave amplification needs. This development leverages Nordic Semiconductor’s more than ten years of leadership in ultra low-power (ULP) wireless and its recruitment of a highly-talented and experienced group of cellular R&D engineers in Finland (formerly employed by the Finnish arms of Nokia, Ericsson, Motorola, and Broadcom). Low-power cellular IoT is positioning itself to be widely adopted in numerous markets and applications including, for example, smart utility metering, asset and people (e.g. child) tracking, fleet management, buildings security and safety, remote maintenance, smart vending machines, retail, healthcare and medical monitoring, real-time traffic monitoring, wearables, indoor and outdoor GPS navigation, smart home technology, automotive (e.g. customized insurance based on actual driving data), and industrial and agricultural automation. Nordic expects to sample the first nRF91 Series solutions to selected lead customers second half of 2017, with broad availability and production ramp following in 2018. The two technologies are set to drive breadth and growth for the emerging cellular IoT market projected to surpass 1.5 billion connections by 2021.
