RF & Wireless News AWR

RF & Wireless News AWR Launches Local Language Web Portals AWR Corporation announces that in order to better support its growing customer base worldwide, it has launched local language web portals in Korean, German, French, Spanish and Russian. Customers can now access AWR information by first entering the AWR site on a page that conveys key product and corporate information in their native language. Subpages containing more detailed technical and product content are then offered in English. These local language web portals complement AWR’s full content English, Japanese and Chinese websites. ■ AWR Corporation www.awrcorp.com/kr AWR Offers eBook Excerpt of Professor Michael Steer’s Latest Microwave & RF Design Book For a limited time AWR will offer a free eBook download of Chapter 18, “Wideband Amplifiers,” from the new second edition of engineering professor Michael Steer’s textbook, Microwave & RF Design: A Systems Approach. The eBook excerpt download also contains embedded video tutorials of Professor Steer demonstrating key principles of design as they pertain to the wideband amplifier case study contained within its pages. This second edition is a comprehensive treatment of RF and microwave design for advanced undergraduate and graduate students (as well as professionals). A key feature of this new edition is the introduction of real-world case studies developed with AWR’s popular Microwave Office circuit design software. These include among others: High Dynamic Range Down-Converter Design, Design of a Bandstop Filter, Narrowband Linear Amplifier Design, Wideband Amplifier Design, Reflection Oscillator, Design of a C-Band VCO, Oscillator Phase Noise Analysis. ■ AWR Corporation www.awrcorp.com/kr Test & Measurement Vaunix Adds Attenuation Profile Feature to LDA Series Attenuators Vaunix Technology Corporation, a manufacturer of Lab Brick USB powered test equipment, has added an attenuation profile feature to the LDA series attenuators. The attenuation profile is user programmable with the capability to simulate various real-world fading conditions. The LDA series of Lab Brick Digital Attenuators includes 50 Ohm RF step attenuators Agilent Technologies Extends Reach of Its Signal Generators and Analyzers Agilent Technologies introduced a line of frequency-extension modules from Virginia Diodes Inc. (VDI), a company that designs, manufactures and sells millimeter-wave and terahertz devices, components and systems, for its signal generators and analyzers. Covering millimeter frequencies up to 1.1 THz, the VDI modules extend the reach of Agilent‘s signal generators and analyzers to address growing needs in early nextgeneration wireless research, sometimes referred to as 5G. The VDI modules are also ideal for working with millimeterwave communication backhaul systems and emerging wireless standards such as IEEE 802.11ad, as well as a range of aerospace/defense applications. The new VDI modules offer much higher performance than other frequency extenders, enabling better measurement results. The with calibrated operation up to 6 GHz. These units connect to a USB port for control and power and require no additional DC supply voltage. They are easily programmable for fixed attenuation or swept attenuation ramps directly from the included GUI. Lab Brick Digital Attenuator API DLL and LabVIEWcompatible drivers are also available for custom programming applications. Lab Brick Digital Attenuators are ideal for engineering and production test laboratories as well as integration into high speed automatic-test-equipment (ATE) systems. They can also be used in development of low-cost fading simulators for Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) and Single Input Multiple Output (SIMO) communication systems such as WiMAX, 3G and LTE. They are based on GaAs monolithic-microwave-integrated-circuit (MMIC) attenuator technology for excellent repeatability of attenuation values. ■ Vaunix Technology Corp www.vaunix.com VDI source modules, for example, offer higher output power, while the VDI signal analyzer modules reduce conversion loss and increase sensitivity. Performance specifications such as these provide greater overall dynamic range for a variety of measurements. The VDI signal analyzer modules offer two modes of operation: standard external mixer and wideband block downconverter. The block downconverter mode enables analysis of wideband modulated signals using either an Agilent signal analyzer or wideband digital oscilloscope running Agilent 89600 VSA software. ■ Agilent Techologies UK Ltd www.agilent.com 52 hf-praxis 11/2013

RF & Wireless Test & Measurement Improve Manufacturing Test Throughput for Power Amplifier Front-End Module Test Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced the M9391A, a 1-MHz to 3- or 6-GHz PXIe vector signal analyzer, with up to 160-MHz bandwidth designed to test the latest wireless standards. Used in combination with Agilent‘s modular X-series applications, the M9391A delivers a consistent user interface, common measurement consistency, and backward-compatible APIs to accelerate test development and throughput. The M9391A is a complementary product to the M9381A PXIe VSG for testing and design validation of wireless power amplifiers, transceivers and cellular base stations, primarily picocell and femtocell. The new analyzer performs more tests in less time, significantly reducing costs. It features innovative Fastune technology that enables unprecedented servo-loop test times through rapid frequency and amplitude adjustments. Plus, its hardware-accelerated power measurements maximize throughput while retaining measurement integrity. Agilent X-Series measurement applications for modular instruments support a common set of standard measurements for wireless communications signals. By using proven X-Series software with the new PXI VSA, engineers can increase measurement speed while ensuring code compatibility and measurement continuity. X-series measurement applications enable the testing of major wireless communications and connectivity formats, such as LTE, GSM, W-CDMA and 802.11ac right from the start, and ensure easy access to emerging standards without returning or replacing hardware. Engineers can use the Agilent M9391A PXIe VSA with the M9381A and modular X-Apps to test wideband power amplifiers, front-end modules, transceivers and more. The PXI VSA comes with 40-MHz RF bandwidth and can be upgraded to 100- or 160-MHz bandwidth supporting extremely fast modulation News Introducing EZ-Sample - Fast, Free SMT Samples on Demand Mini-Circuits founder and president, Harvey Kaylie said in 2002, „Speed is a competitive advantage.“ With EZ Sample, another Mini-Circuits industryfirst, speed is one competitive advantage we‘re giving our customers. EZ sample is Mini-Circuits‘ new, online, FREE sample request system for surface mount parts. It‘s fast, free, and EZ as ABC: 1. The hardware is license-key upgradeable to adapt to new and changing requirements. ■ Agilent Techologies UK Ltd www.agilent.com EMC MAJR Products: EMI/ ESD Supressor RFMW, Ltd. announces design and sales support for MAJR Products Corporation’s readyto-install EMI/RFI shielded honeycomb ventilation panels designated as their 3000 Series. Ideal for both portable and rack mounted telecommunication systems, these panels provide optimum EMI/RFI shielding with minimum static pressure drop for ease of airflow. The thin 0.004 in. conductive walls of the honeycomb waveguide cells allows air to flow freely with very low static pressure drop (resistance to air flow). Dust filter media, either integrated into the honeycomb frame or as a stand alone panel attachment are available upon request. An EMI/RFI gasket is always supplied as an integral part of the honeycomb vent panel assembly. The 3031-20505-32 exhibits a 5” x 5” opening with a chromate aluminum honeycomb. Tin plated aluminum honeycomb (3031-20505-42) and tin plated steel honeycomb (3031- 20505-44) are also available in order to meet specific attenuation and environmental requirements of MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD 810. The 3031 series is available in a multitude of standard sizes (3”x3” to 18”x18”) and standard mounting configurations. Custom products are also available. ■ MAJR Products www.majr.com hf-praxis 11/2013 53
