RF & Wireless PCI

RF & Wireless PCI Express Test Solution with Multivendor Oscilloscope Support 4th Order Absorptive Bessel Filters RLC Electronics‘ 4th order absorptive Bessel filters provide the excellent group delay response of Bessel filters while maintaining impedance matching far into the stop band. Resistive elements are designed into these filters, resulting in a response that closely mimics the classic Bessel in both amplitude and phase. These filters are used in digital systems where truthful reproduction of waveforms is important. These filters are now available with -3dB cut off frequencies as high as 30 GHz. A surface mount configuration is available to 4 GHz. ■ RLC Electronics, Inc. www.rlcelectronics.com High-Power Directional Couplers RLC Electronics‘ high-power directional couplers offer accurate coupling (+/-1 dB), low insertion loss (0.1 to 0.35 dB max.) and high directivity (>14 dB at 18 GHz). These high power couplers are offered with 500-1000 W average power handling up to 18 GHz, as well as 100 W versions up to 40 GHz. The standard units are optimized for 2 octave bandwidths and are available with a choice of coupling values (30, 40 or 50 dB). RLC can utilize SC or 7/16 connectors on the main line, should this be needed to meet customer designs. These units are ideal for sampling forward and reflected power with a negligible effect on the transmission line and very low intermodulation products. ■ RLC Electronics, Inc. www.rlcelectronics.com Anritsu Corporation announced that it is exhibiting its Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A series and Compliance Test Solution developed in collaboration with Granite River Labs (GRL) and Teledyne LeCroy at the PCI-SIG Developers Conference 2018 in the USA. The test solution supports both PCI Express transmitter and receiver tests using automation software for the MP1900A. It also enables connection of customers’ oscilloscopes with the MP1900A by supporting real-time oscilloscopes from the three main manufacturers, permitting automation of complex receiver tests required for evaluating devices in accordance with the PCI Express standards. Automated testing lightens the workload burden on test engineers by cutting the previous 10 hours required for manual testing to almost no time. The next PCI Express Gen5 standard increases the transmission speed from 16 to 32 GT/s, and is expected to be adopted for use as the internal interface in equipment such as transmission devices, servers and storage used mainly in data centers. Due to the increased speed, customers need to either upgrade or replace both their bit error rate tester (BERT) and oscilloscopes while taking items such as performance and price into consideration. To solve this problem and help hold-down capital expenditure by eliminating costly upgrades and equipment replacement, Anritsu has partnered with GRL and Teledyne LeCroy to develop a PCI Express test solution based on the combination of automation software supporting BERT measurements up to PCI Express Gen5 transmission speeds using Anritsu’s MP1900A with excellent basic performance (low intrinsic jitter/noise, high input sensitivity, etc.) and customers’ own high-quality oscilloscopes. The MP1900A is a wideband BERT with high-quality waveforms and high input sensitivity to implement high-reproducibility tests for evaluating not only PCI Express devices but also high-speed serial devices, such as 400 GbE. The MP1900A BERT has excellent cost-performance due to its easy expandability supporting next-generation standards, including PCI Express Gen5 and PAM. ■ Anritsu Corporation www.anritsu.com Gen9HV LDMOS 140 W RF PA Transistor for UHF Ampleon announced the introduction of its BLF989 RF power transistor designed for UHF broadcast applications such as DVBT and UHF analog TV. Using Ampleon’s latest Gen9HV high voltage LDMOS process, this 140 W (average 700 W peak) transistor, the first broadcast device to use this process technology, offers a high operating efficiency of typically >34% (Class AB) and is available in a ceramic SOT539 package format either with or without mounting ears. 52 hf-praxis 8/2018

RF & Wireless Featuring best-in-class ruggedness of >40:1 the BLF989 also offers excellent operating stability and product consistency characteristics, this aiding the whole design-in and production processes for RF power equipment manufacturers. Capable of operating in the UHF range of 400 to 860 MHz, the transistor has a high gain, >21 dB at P average , and optimal gain flatness across the frequency range. The Gen9HV process used for the BLF989 builds on Ampleon’s industry-respected technology leadership with its broadcast Gen6HV portfolio further enhancing efficiency, gain and ruggedness specifications. The BLF989 is the first in a portfolio of soon to be released Gen9HV products specially designed for broadcast applications. ■ Ampleon Netherlands B.V. www.ampleon.com High-Linearity DOCSIS 3.1 CATV Amplifier RFPD, Inc. announced the availability and full design support capabilities for a new RF amplifier for CATV applications from Macom Technology Solutions, Inc.
