RF & Wireless Test & Measurement Spectrum Analyzer and RF Recorder If your application requires *GPS time stamping* of streaming RF data, the BB60C supports a 1 pulse-per-second (1-PPS) input, which provides 50 ns (4 sample) timing accuracy. We also feature time-gated spectrum analysis, allowing you to specify a gate /length/ and a gate /delay/ relative to a provided trigger. This allows you to see the spectrum at a specific time, for example to view the spectrum during the "on" time of a pulse-modulated signal. ■ Signal Hound Inc. www.signalhound.com The “Signal Hound BB60C” Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer and RF Recorder is the successor to the popular Signal Hound BB60A. Utilizing a USB 3.0 / SuperSpeed/ link, the BB60C streams 140 MB/sec of digitized RF data to your PC, 14-bit samples at 80 million samples per second, with 27 MHz of useable bandwidth. As a spectrum analyzer, our proprietary Application Programming Interface (API) performs up to 1.2 million FFTs every second, delivering real-time spectrum data to our open-source Graphical User Interface (GUI), or to your own software application. Because of these immense processing requirements, we recommend a desktop PC with an Intel quadcore i7-2600 or better, or a laptop with an i7-3612QM or better. As an RF recorder, the BB60C requires a hard drive capable of 250 MB/sec sustained sequential write speed. Our open-source "FM Demo" demonstrates this capability by streaming the entire 88-108 MHz FM radio band to disk. You can listen to any two radio stations simultaneously from live data or recorded data. Remember to budget 10 GB of disk space per minute of recording. Our open-source spectrum analyzer software features a 2-D waterfall or 3-D topographical view, as well as a GPU-accelerated color persistence mode. Normally undetectable events are easily seen in this mode. Turn on color persistence to see what you’ve been missing! The picture shows a real-time capture of an HP 8662A stepping between two frequencies. You can see exactly what happens in the frequency domain as the PLLs unlock and lock during the transition, illustrating the power of the BB60C as a development tool. News RF Engineering Services Include Hybrid Analog and Digital Modules SemiGen, Inc., an ISO and ITAR registered RF/Microwave assembly, automated PCB manufacturing, and RF Supply Center, is now offering a full range of RF/microwave and digital design/engineering services. SemiGen/ SWT, SemiGen’s RF/ microwave and digital design service, is offered in collaboration with the microwave-engineering experts at Saltwhistle Technologies. SemiGen/SWT can help with unique RF and digital engineering challenges, and also with writing the spec, manufacturing the first prototype, redesign and qualification, and eventually, full-volume assembly. When maximum system performance at the lowest cost is a key driver of design, Semigen/SWT is experienced in designing and integrating amplifiers, attenuators, switches, oscillators, synthesizers, filters, couplers, mixers, and more into one cohesive module complete with digital microcontroller circuitry. And their phased approach to payments is based on milestones, so customers know exactly where they are financially and when to expect each stage of development to be complete. Design of RF/Microwave assemblies includes: receivers, transmitters/exciters, frequency synthesizers, frequency converters, frequency multipliers, microwave switched filters, millimeterwave switches, high-power pulsed-power amplifiers, highpower combiners and directional couplers, and low-cost radar sensors. Engineering services include: rapid RF prototyping, RF and microwave mechanical packaging, RF and microwave circuit board design, RF component testing services, and ATE software development. ■ SemiGen www.semigen.net 48 hf-praxis 8/2014

RF & Wireless Two Portable Oscilloscope Families Set New Standards in Price/Performance, Measurement Accuracy Fig. 1: Agilent´s InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series and Infiniium S-Series Oscilloscopes are settig the new Standard for the portable performance space Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced two new high-performance portable oscilloscope series deploying next-generation oscilloscope technology. The Infiniium S-Series sets a new standard for signal integrity for bandwidths up to 8 GHz, while the InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series sets a new standard for price/ performance with bandwidths up to 6 GHz. 10-bit ADC The Infiniium S-Series has the world‘s fastest 10-bit ADC. Compared with traditional scopes with 8-bit ADCs, the S-Series has four times the vertical resolution for precise viewing of signal detail. Coupled with a new low-noise front end, the S-Series delivers an ENOB (effective number of bits) for the system of more than eight, the highest in the industry. The series includes bandwidths from 500 MHz to 8 GHz with four-channel DSO models and 16-digital-channel MSO models. Standard memory is 50 Mpts per channel or 100 Mpts per channel Fig 2: InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes set the new standard in oscilloscope integration with the capabilities of up to six instruments in one when interleaved, the deepest in the industry. Measurement software The S-Series features the industry‘s most comprehensive application-specific measurement software, fueled by a powerful motherboard with 8-GB RAM, ensuring the scope stays responsive in all operating modes. Fast boot-up time and increased reliability is made possible with its solid-state drive. The 15-inch (38.1 cm) multitouch capacitive display is the largest in the industry, making it easier to see results and easier to use. Agilent also provides options for integrating MATLAB capabilities directly into the oscilloscopes, further increasing their measurement and analysis power for customers. The new InfiniiVision 6000 X-Series is the first oscilloscope to offer 6 GHz bandwidth starting at less than half the price of competitors‘ oscilloscopes with comparable bandwidths. The new lineup includes 2- and 4-channel DSO models and MSO models with 16 digital channels and with bandwidths from 1 GHz to 6 GHz at 20-GS/s sample rate. The 6000 X-Series oscilloscopes offer these capabilities for the first time in an oscilloscope of this size. Its weight of 6.8 kg (15 lbs.) and depth of 15 cm (6 inches) are one-third of similar bandwidth products on the market today, setting a new standard for portability in multi- GHz-bandwidth oscilloscopes.
