Test & Measurement

Test & Measurement Cost-Effective Millimeter-Wave Signal Analysis Solution Agilent Technologies Inc. announced that its EXA signal analyzer is now the industry‘s most cost-effective millimeterwave signal analyzer, covering frequencies up to 44 GHz. With external mixing, it can cover up to 325 GHz. The result is easier, more accurate millimeter-wave measurements. The need to test and operate systems in the millimeter-wave range continues today. Additionally, the growing demand for higher resolution radar, imaging and sensor systems, along with multi-gigabit wireless and fiber data communications, has fostered increasing interest in high-frequency components and systems. The EXA‘s extended capabilities and enhanced performance in millimeterwave measurements effectively address this need, while offering a lower-cost alternative. Like other Agilent X-Series signal analyzers, the EXA is versatile, expandable, offers the broadest set of measurement applications, and can be easily upgraded. In addition, its portability versus the PXA signal analyzer (16 kg versus 22 kg) makes it ideal for millimeterwave applications in aerospace/ defense and wireless communications backhaul. The EXA‘s exceptional sensitivity (< -140 dBm/Hz across the V-band with Agilent‘s smart harmonic mixers) enables accurate measurement of spurs and harmonics. Along with its excellent phase-noise performance (-106 dBc/Hz typical at 10 kHz offset, 1 GHz carrier), the EXA is able to meet tighter regulations and test requirements for millimeterwave device design and performance verification. The EXA is a member of the Agilent X-Series signal analyzers, with frequency coverage from 10 Hz to 44 GHz. The X-Series is an evolutionary approach to signal analysis that spans instruments, measurements and software, including more than 25 industry-leading measurement applications that cover cellular communication, wireless connectivity, digital video and other purposes. ■ Agilent www.agilent.com Bluetooth Low-Energy RF Test Option for Wireless Connectivity Test Set Agilent Technologies Inc. announced a Bluetooth lowenergy test as an option on the N4010A wireless connectivity test set for device and module makers. The Agilent N4010A test set with the new Bluetooth lowenergy Tx/Rx option gives manufacturers and design houses reliable and efficient test solutions for Bluetooth lowenergy applications. The new test solution helps speed product development and accelerate the time to volume production. Bluetooth low-energy technology enables long operational life with minimal power consumption for applications such as mobile communications, sports and fitness, health care, security, and home entertainment. The N4010A wireless connectivity test set for Bluetooth lowenergy delivers: - A versatile, multiformat, one-box test set designed for Bluetooth, WLAN a/b/g/n and Zigbee applications. (It covers product lifecycle from development and integration through to production, delivering the lowest cost of ownership in one single-box solution.) - The new Option 109 supports nonsignaling Bluetooth low-energy Tx/Rx testing in external PC-hosted software for both single-mode and dualmode Bluetooth low-energy applications. - Low-cost and efficient testing of the evolving Bluetooth devices and modules covering Bluetooth 1.1, 1.2, 2.0+ EDR, Bluetooth audio and Bluetooth low energy. (The Bluetooth low-energy Tx/Rx option complies with the latest Bluetooth 4.0 core specification for RF test requirements.) ■ Agilent www.agilent.com 46 hf-praxis 9/2012

RF & Wireless Test & Measurement RFMW Announces USB Controlled Phase Shifter from Telemakus, LLC Wireless LPRS Fortronic Update Rick Winscott of US company Quilix has married together two ‚easy‘ technologies by developing an Arduino ‚shield‘ for the LPRS „easyRadio Advanced“ low power radio modules. Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easyto-use hardware and software. It‘s intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments. More on Arduino on http:// www.arduino.cc/ Winscott comments on easyRadio „All you need is power, ground, and two serial-capable pins and you have reliable bi-directional communication between microcontrollers, desktops, laptops, or whatever. No frustrations over pairing, and no twiddles with configuration. I haven‘t seen anything like this product in the States.“ In combination with the Arduino platform remote sense and control applications can now be developed and tested with great ease and speed. David Schmider, Technical Director at LPRS comments - „this really RFMW, Ltd. announces application and sales support for the Telemakus TEP8000-6 RF, digital phase shifter. This laboratory quality phase shifter has a minimum phase range of 360 degrees with 12-bit, 0.25 degree resolution and operates over the bandwidth of 4 to 8 GHz. Maximum RF input for linear operation is +10 dBm. Typical insertion loss through the TEP8000-6 is only 5 dB. When coupled with the TEA8000-6 USB controlled RF attenuator, a gain and phase control system can be created. Applications include phased array antenna testing. Weighing less than an ounce each, Telemakus test devices represent the latest technology in low cost, transportable test equipment. Each unit‘s graphical user interface (GUI) is resident in on-board Flash memory making them „plug and play“ for Window‘s* based PCs. ■ Telemakus, LLC Stocking Distributor RFMW, Ltd. info@rfmw.com New USB Controlled Digital Attenuators Offer Input Power Up to 2 W Vaunix Technology Corporation has announced the addition of three new models to their family of LDA Series Digital Attenuators. This product family now offers attenuators with up to 90 dB of programmable attenuation through 6 GHz. The LDA-302P-H, LDA-302P-1 and LDA- 302P-2 all have input power of up to 2 W and frequency coverage of 10 to 3000 MHz. All units are powered and controlled by connection to a PC or self-powered USB hub, and highlights the point of easyRadio, a simple to use RF link that removes the headache of writing configuration software“ In addition to manufacturing the highly successful easyRadio Advanced (eRA) wireless modules in the UK, the full LPRS product range now includes, narrow band are programmable for fixed attenuation or swept attenuation ramps directly from the included graphical user interface software. Easily programmable for ATE applications, the LDA Digital Attenuators can also be used in WiMAX, 3G, 4G, LTE, DVB Fading Simulators, and engineering and production test labs. ■ Vaunix www.vaunix.com long range wireless modules from CDP, the IQRF range of wireless networking components, the IQVC range of visual control panels together with antenna, wireless key fobs and a wide range of sensor products. ■ LPRS www.lprs.co.uk hf-praxis 9/2012 47
